Thank you all for your such kind comments and emails about my little news :) I want to show you our baby's very first handmade gift! The lovely Leila whipped it up for him/her! How cute is it??? I can't begin to tell how much of a joy it is to look at this and imagine putting it on the baby! Thank you so very much Leila!!
Everything is progressing fine so far, and I am on my 15th week now. I am due July 6th, so I have 171 days to go until our little one pops out to join this family. Both Joe and I are so excited about our first baby. We talk about him/her everyday; in fact, we had started talking about our baby several years before this one began growing in my belly! We hope to figure out the sex of the baby soon. I have no preference on this whatsoever. If Mikan (a temporary nickname for the baby) is a girl, I will have a lot of fun sewing cute things for her with lovely fabrics. If Mikan is a boy, then I guess I will know what my friends mean by "it's like having a little boyfriend." Joe seems to lean toward a girl but that's only because we just saw my cousin's newborn baby girl who was just the most darling one.
My concern now is my weight gain. I've gained a ridiculous amount of weight. Over 10 pounds (5 kg)!!! No, it's not normal. According to my doctor, I am supposed to gain 1 pound per month. It has most definitely not been 10 months since I got pregnant. *sigh..* My appetite scares me. Food tastes SO good now I can't stop eating throughout the day. Sometimes I catch Joe looking wide-eyed at how much I am eating. And I can't do a lot of exercise because my tummy slightly hurts lately. So my daily routine is like 'eat, eat, eat, nap, eat, eat, eat, sleep'. lol.
My queasiness comes and goes from time to time, but it has become much much less frequent. I tell myself everyday, "I am doing better than yesterday and I will be completely back to normal today," hoping that it will actually be true. I think I am on the mend finally though. My lost crafting mojo is coming back slowly, which I know so because I found myself browsing fabric online today. That didn't happen for a LONG time! Sewing/fabric had been the last thing on my mind for so long. I'll see if I can feel different if I jump onto some small project soon. Oh and I will be sure to have my new patterns for Super Penguin QAL next month! (Thank you for your patience!!)
I have been extremely awful at replying to comments and emails. I really hope I have replied everyone by now, but if any of you sent me a email with questions and I didn't reply, I am terribly sorry about that. Now that I am much better and being on my computer doesn't make me feel nauseated, I promise to get much better at this. Thank you for your patience and understanding, my friends!
congratulations for your pregnancy,Ayumi.. hopefully you always stay healthy during the pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations at the wonderful news!!!!!!!!!!!!! May you and Joe have a wonderful pregnancy and can't wait to see pics of the baby, both of you and the projects you will be doing!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that first gift -- such a sweet little package! I know they say that more than one pound a month isn't normal, but honestly...it's pretty normal. Don't worry too much over it. You will be yourself again someday, or I should say a new version of yourself, which you will come to like just as much or better than who you were before that precious little one came along.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you! I've been away so I must have missed your announcement.
ReplyDeleteMy dotor was concerned about my weight gain, too, and it wasn't water retention. I gained over 50 with each of 2 pregnancies, but it all turned out fine & I lost the weight more quickly than I gained it! I think everyone just reacts to pregnancy differently, so enjoy it !!
Such an exciting time for you and Joe!
ReplyDeletecongratulations!
Yay, congrats! Such a sweet gift too. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. And don't worry too much about the weight gain. Maybe it's 1 pound a month the first few months but then it's more like a pound a week. You should gain 25-40 lbs over 40 weeks. As long as you are being healthy.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And what a gorgeous little handmade gift for your baby. I gained a ton of weight during my first pregnancy, but actually I lost all of it and more within a year. As long as you're not hoping to be back in pre-pregnancy jeans inside a week of giving birth, don't panic.
ReplyDeleteYou and Joe are going to make the cutest baby EVER!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking a picture Ayumi, I as usual forgot!
ReplyDeleteOh the weight gain, the food cravings it's fun isn't it!
It's best not to worry overly much about what's normal or not pregnancy is different for everyone :)
x
Apparently Japanese doctors are very strict on pregnancy weight gain compared to other countries. I stopped counting at 20kgs with my first but it turns out he was 4.8kgs of that on his own!! Second time around it was a neat 10 or so. Your body needs the energy to grow Mikan (ADORABLE name by the way!!) and start stocking up for oppai! Can't wait to follow along the news :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! How exciting for you. I love the little outfit too.

ReplyDeleteAyumi, your little one looks adorable already! How exciting to get your first picture :) I agree with Leila, try not to worry too much about the weight and everything. Pregnancy is different for everyone, everytime! xx
ReplyDeleteSoooo beautyfulll O_O

All the best for the rest of the pregnancy, Ayumi! 15 weeks, that means the most critical phase is over! Yay! :-)Pregnancy weight gain is such an individual thing, don't get too hung up by statistics. I know several women, especially those who had nausea, who also gained a lot during the first months. And it all also depends on what you started out with weight-wise. All the best for you, Joe and Mikan! :-)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking it would be a summer baby. Mikan is trying to share our birthday ;-)
ReplyDeleteyou do need to try and get some exercise, walking or swimming would be least sore I'd think. You have to be fit for running around after the baby! :D
If the food is good nutritious stuff it can only be doing you and Mikan good. (we have a tendency here to refer to baby as 'bump' til they are born, but Mikan is nice!)
Congratulation!
ReplyDeleteI'm pregnant too. I'm now on my 20th week. Over 8 kg, but I prefer to think it's normal ;) Only thing I'm missing is a nap during the day, coz of my little daughter who wants to play with me all day long ;)
Congratulations and all the best to you and your family! Wonderful news! I'm sure soon you find yourslef inspired and sewing little cloths and quilts! x Teje
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet clothes from Leila! It is hard to fight your body when you are pregnant, appetite particularly, it takes 9 months to make the baby and your body is going to need that energy xxx
ReplyDeleteHOLA, COMO STAS? TUS TRABAJOS SON HERMOSO, TE FELICITO, QUE DIOS BENDIGA TU CREATIVIDAD.. AHORA TE SIGO, VISITAME TAMBIÉN, SIEMPRE SERAS BIENVENIDA.. ANÍMATE.. BESOS, ABRAZOS Y BENDICIONES.
ReplyDeleteZHOBEYD@....
Congratulations! Don't worry too much about the weight. I gained 15kg during my pregnancy and it all was lost over a couple of months after my little boy was born. Actually in the beginning you eat a lot and then when the baby is growing inside your portions start to get smaller and smaller, so don't worry about eating now. Just don't eat too many sweets and cakes :)
ReplyDeleteHope you will stay healthy during your pregnancy and will have a lot of great moments like listening to your baby's heart beating or feeling him/her kicking inside :)
Oh that is so good to hear that you lost your weight that quickly! I guess I was freaking out a little too much! I must admit I eat too much sweets though.. must stop that. haha.
DeleteThank you for your advice, Darya!
congratulations ayumi! best wishes :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Ayumi, congratulations, that is so exciting!!! How sweet of Leila, that's such an adorable little outfit :)
ReplyDeleteHi Ayumi. Enjoy this special body building that you are doing! I'm excited for the baby's arrival for you and Joe!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Ayumi!!! Enjoy every second of this wonderful time!!!I wish you the Best of the world!!!Loved the sweet clothes from Leila.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day!

You know, I gained weight quickly at first with my last two pregnancies and then leveled out for a time and it all worked out fine, at the end I had only gained 25 pounds. Things will work out!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Ayumi and Joe ~ exciting times! Don't worry about the food or weight ~ just be sure to eat well, get lots of rest and enjoy yourself!
ReplyDeleteThat little outfit is too cute!
So glad you are feeling a little better A! Don't worry about the weight! It will all balance out eventually. The cravings are usually things your body has been deprived of! I gained nearly 4 stone with my first 2 pregnancies (each!), but was only half a stone heavier than normal when I left hospital! You might find your appetite wanes towards the end. The main thing is that you and baby are healthy! Jxo
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful- treasure each day while your little miracle grows inside you. It is a remarkable experience! Congrats to you both!
ReplyDeleteOh happy congratulations! Don't fret about the weight. My hubby used to tell me not to worry you eat what the baby needs and worry about it after! Also, morning sickness is a good sign. Think of it that way. Hope you feel better soon and that all goes well for your delivery!!!!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCcngratulations, and take care
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I think I gained 10 lbs before I even went to the doctor. Walking is great exercise and can be done anywhere.
ReplyDeleteAyumi, Congratulations!!!! So happy for you and your husband. Hoping the nausea eases up and you start to feel like yourself again soon. I had three children and I still remember the awful nausea I felt while in the early months. I gets better! Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I wouldn't worry too much ;) I gained nearly 60 pounds with mine and lost it all within the first two months and now, 10 months later, I'm actually 15 pounds lighter than when I started (due to chasing the little guy around and him not letting me put him down long enough to eat).
ReplyDeleteThis email came at the perfect time, I was just going to write to you and ask how you are doing. So glad to hear that all is well. I love that you and Joe have nicknamed the baby, Mikan. Hold off 4 days and he/she can share a birthday with ME!
ReplyDeleteThe clothes Leila made are so sweet. It's so fun to dress babies in cute clothes made with love. xoxo
Stay healthy, the weight will fall off after the baby is born.
congratulations!! i'm very happpy for you..
ReplyDeletei'm also pregnant.. my do date is 24 june..
i still dont know if it is a boy or a girl.. im hoping to be a girl, just for fun and teach sewing and stuf like that.. i will be waiting to you post baby sewing..
big kiss..
What cute clothes!! I so excited for you. :) I hope you're able to determine the gender soon!
ReplyDeleteCongratumalations!!! I wouldn't worry about your weight gain -- it just means that Mikan is really, really healthy! :D
ReplyDeleteCongrats again sweet friend! Be gentle on yourself. You're growing a human being! It's such an amazing thing.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm kind of hoping your baby comes 4 days early, so we'll share the same birthday. ;)
Congratulations Ayumi! It was so nice to hear from you, I had really missed you.
ReplyDeleteMyrto
WELCOME BACK! You have been dearly missed!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteI also have to say you weight gain sounds ok to me. A pound a month would mean you would only gain 9-10 pounds total!
I think you are ok on weight gain. I think the ACOG recommends a woman of normal weight gain 25-40 pounds.
I'm trying to encouraging. I gained 50 pounds with each of my babies.
Those clothes are GORGEOUS! And I bet they're so soft in that nani iro.
ReplyDeleteDon't stress about your weight gain. I know when I had morning sickness, the only thing that helped was to eat. Things will balance out for you soon. Realistically you're supposed to gain a pound a week after your first trimester. If you gain 25 more pounds, you're still in a totally normal range. I've gained 35, 30, 60!, and 45 pounds with each of my kids and each time got back below my pregnancy weight.
I'm so excited for you :)
Congratulations! Don't worry about the weight gain, with my first child I gained weight very quickly at first, but then hardly gained anymore weight until the last few weeks. I think sometimes it is extra fluid rather than actual body mass. Just as long as you are eating healthily and not stuffing junk food all day long, you will both be fine. In the UK they don't really weigh you in pregnancy unless your have health issues or are under/over weight before pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteYou are the cutest cutie ever. Don't worry about the weight gain. Just enjoy this time! You and Joe are adorable. xoxo. And I love Leila's gift!!
ReplyDeleteAyumi, it's lovely to see this post and to know you are doing so well. I imagine that your weight gain will sort of average out between now and July. You and Joe are going to be terrific parents. Lucky little baby.
ReplyDeleteYou made me smile when you apologized about not blogging or crafting. Goodness gracious Ayumi, you are creating the most wonderful creation anyone could! xo
I think Japan is a little bit different in weight gains during pregnancy than the western culture. As a nurse I've always been told somewhere as little as 20lbs to as much as 35-40lbs is acceptable in a healthy, average weight woman. I don't think you should be concerned so much about that as making sure you are consuming nutritious things along with those cravings to ensure that your baby is born healthy.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! What wonderful news! Such a sweet picture of you and your hubby. I wish you a smooth and restful pregnancy! ^^
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!!! What great news! i have a little almost 6 monts old baby girl... it is so much fun :)
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to hear that you are feeling better Ayumi. Everyone here is being so polite about the weight advice from your Doctor. Well, I think that is crazy! No woman EVER grows a baby in 9 months and only gains 9 pounds! It's utterly impossible! You don't want to know how much I gained, but judging from photos you are a very small person, so it no matter what your body needs, it will likely feel like a lot to you. It is a very small component of the huge journey that you and Joe are on. It's a journey to be enjoyed (now that the nausea part is over, that is). Wishing you nothing but the best! xo
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! Something beautifull to look forward!
ReplyDeleteYou two are sooo cute!! I'm so happy you are starting to feel better =D hugs!!!!
ReplyDeleteEating is good - feeling ill at the thought of food is bad, so don't worry ;)
ReplyDeleteKeep happy my friend xxx
Ayumi, your baby's picture is adorable! Wish you a healthy happy pregnancy.. So nice to know you are feeling better and enjoying taking food. The baby clothes from your friend are so so sweet! Take care xo
ReplyDeleteAyumi-san,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your little baby! Don't worry about the weight gain.. I'm currently 39 weeks 3 days and I've put on (don't tell anyone) 44 lbs! this is too much, but I know it won't stay (I give myself a year to lose it), and it will make a great story to tell my son after he's born. I wish you the best of luck for a smooth pregnancy, enjoy every minute~~
Take care,
Jess in NY
Ayumi!! How did I miss this?! I am so so so very happy for you. I can't wait to see the adorable things you make for your little babe. :D
ReplyDeleteI gained 15 pounds during a pregnancy...it just wasn't mine! It was my best friend who was hungry like no other person alive after she was about 16 weeks along. Up until that point she was the most miserable pregnant person I had ever known...soooo, I had to keep her filled up and happy! We really ate like crazy, we both have lost all that pregnancy weight (it was 20 years ago!!). Now we marvel that we could eat like that! I hope you feel better and enjoy your pregnancy!
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog for a while, and I don't believe I have ever commented before... But I wanted to tell you and Joe congratulations. Your little one will bring you so much happiness. I am so excited for all three of you!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy making amazing little gifts while you wait for his/her arrival, and don't worry about the weight gain. You are supposed to!
Hi Lisa, Thank you for leaving the comment for the first time :) I guess I should stop weighing myself everyday so I can focus more on enjoying food!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations Ayumi! What an exciting time for you! I had "morning, afternoon, evening" sickness for both my pregnancies and I drank Korean citron tea almost every day to ease my tummy. Also I wore "sea-bands" almost through my entire first pregnancy which really helped with the nausea. Gaining weight is normal and different for everyone...if you've got a craving and an appetite, go for it! You deserve it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Willa! I have never tried Korean citron tea or sea-bands, but now I am so curious! I drink a lot of Korean corn tea though :) I love the crispy taste and it is caffeine free!
DeleteCitron tea looks like marmalade with orange peel in it...it comes in a jar and you mix a spoonful with hot water. It's really tasty. I usually get it at my local Chinese supermarket....I'll have to look for Korean corn tea next time. Sounds intriguing! The bands I got from the pharmacy...let me know if you want to try. Maybe I can send one your way :)
ReplyDeleteI just looked up citron tea and it looks like it's something I can find at my local store! I bet it tastes so good I must try!!! Thank you Willa!
DeleteWonderful news. Don't worry about anything - just try to feel as good as you can and enjoy the whole experience. So excited for you to have this huge blessing.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better. Don't stress out about the food. You need to eat. This is a huge job and you need nutrition to make sure you and your little one are healthy. As long as you aren't scarfing down huge portions of empty calories, it will all come out well. Enjoy this time, and may you continue to feel better with each passing week!
ReplyDeleteAyumi, it's so good to read a post from you! Whether baby is a boy or girl, trust me you'll love him/her to bits. Enjoy this time - being pregnant, even when we feel yucks most days, is so special and an amazing experience. I had 3 girls in 5 years; the last one just born july 2012. I put on 20 kg = 44 pounds for each pregnancy (and lose them each time). I don't recommend putting on so much weight but ppl tend to be kind when they know you're pregnant; just make sure baby is doing a-okay; go for all your doctor's appointments. I have now lost 16 kg and have 4kg to go to get back to a healthy BMI.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!! Hope you continue to feel better. ;p
ReplyDeleteMissing reading your messages. I'm glad you are feeling better. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!!Wonderful news:))
ReplyDeleteTake your time to rest. I had morning sickness that lasted the whole day for up to 5 month. The only time I didn't feel sick was when I was eating. But it will get better and then you will be busy sewing and preparing for the baby.
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best.
I'm so much happy for both of you!! This is such a wonderful time, isn't it ? CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
ReplyDeleteHuge congratulations Ayumi! I am the worst person to comment on being pregnant because I hated it! The result is so worth it though :) Don't worry about what is 'normal' or gaining weight - eat what you like, sleep as much as possible and enjoy yourself! I had lots of nausea so you have my empathy, ginger biscuits helped me - I kept them next to the bed and ate them when I woke up! All the best for a healthy pregnancy :) XX
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! You have so many adventures ahead!
ReplyDeleteI had midwives for all three of my pregnancies, and they tend to be much more relaxed about weight gain than doctors. It really is different for each person and for each pregnancy, but 25-45 lbs is all very, very normal, and (if you breastfeed) not difficult to lose. In fact, I found that when I gained more (as I did with babies 1 and 3), I bounced back *faster* than when I gained less...with baby 2 I may have been a bit leaner, but I also felt exhausted during those first few weeks postpartum. You'll need those reserves :) xx
Congratulations! Enjoy the time of pregnancy as much as you can. Eating is good, is nice, is normal. And you have the green light for everything you wish to eat. There is no weight night-mare at the end of the road. When I was pregnant, every day after work my husband brought home ice-cream and lots of nuts. And I was eating all of them, with the same pleasure every day. Have fun! The time will never be the same again.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! Really amazing news. I wish you healthy and very happy pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Congrats and take care of yourself.

Congratulations on your fab news! I've just had my 3rd baby last month and being a mum is the most wonderful thing in the world. Hope you start to feel better soon. I lost nearly all interest in sewing when I was pregnant too but am back behind the machine again only 5 weeks after having her so it will pass :-) Enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! to publish such a nice blog. I gained a ton of weight during my first pregnancy, but actually I lost all of it and more within a year.
